Specs at a glance:
Overview:
Xperia E is an android smartphone that is manufactured by Sony Corporation. The Smartphone is a low end smartphone for people who want the goodness of android at a pocket friendly price. It features a multi touch screen, dual Sim, android v4.0.4 Ice cream Sandwich (v4.1.1 Jelly bean update is already out and ready to install) and a beautiful design. Let’s get on with the review to explore further goodness.
Design:
The device is amongst the 2013 Xperia line up. The device features the same rectangular design as with other Xperia 2013 line up. The device is glass at the front and plastic at the back. The good part is that the plastic is of good quality and not even for a second gives a cheap feeling. The device is a very compact device and is amongst the devices that are very easy to hold, use and keep in our pockets. The device weighs 115.7 grams only and the dimensions of the phone are; 113.5 (4.47 inches) x 61.8 (2.43 inches) x 11 mm (0.43 inches). The front of the device is where we have the 3.5 inches multi touch capacitive touchscreen. Above the display is where we have the speaker grill, the Sony logo, the proximity sensor and the LED notification light. Below the display is where we have the capacitive touch sensitive back, home and menu keys and the Mic, nothing else. At the back of the phone, we have the dedicated active noise cancellation mic, the primary 3.15 Megapixel camera, the Xperia Logo and the speaker grill. The back of the phone is removable hence the Micro sim and the Micro SD card go under the back cover. The Micro SD is easily accessible once the back is removed. This is because it is not located under the battery, it is located close to the camera. At the right side of the phone is where we have the volume key, the power key and the dedicated camera button. The left side is where we have the USB port. At the top of the phone, we have the 3.5 mm headphone jack. The bottom of the phone is empty.
Hardware:
The hardware of the phone features a QUALCOMM Snapdragon cortex A5 processor clocked at 1 GHz And 512 MB of RAM. The GPU of the device is Adreno 200. Both the CPU and GPU are both good for handling light, day to day tasks. The display is a 3.5 multi touch display that supports up to 2 fingers. It is a 320*480 pixel display with a pixel density of 165 Pixels per Inch. The display is covered by scratch resistant glass so that screen protection is not an issue. The primary camera is a 3.15 Megapixel sensor and does not have a LED flash. The camera features geo tagging and is capable of recording VGA videos at 30 frames per second. It comes in one storage variant that is 4 GB internal storage and a Micro SD card slot that can handle Storage up to 32 GB. Other connectivity options are 2G and 3G support, dual sim (Micro Sim), 802.11 b/g/n Wifi, Bluetooth v2.1, MicroUSB v2.0 and FM radio. Last but not the least, the device packs a 1530 mAh removable Battery that has a talk time up to 6 hours and 12 Minutes.
Software:
The device comes with Android v4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich that can be updated to v4.1.1 jelly bean and Sony’s custom User Interface. Based on Sony’s Project Butter, Sony’s User Interface is very simple. This is good for the device because the device runs on low end hardware. So if the software is made too heavy, the performance of the device will go down and will lead to user dissatisfaction due to the lags in the device.
Conclusion:
The device is a good device considering the option of Dual Sim and the price tag it comes with. The Android Version 4.1.1 jelly bean is a better, more advance version of android 4.0.4. Still, it is made lighter than v4.0.4 Ice cream sandwich. The device is a very good option if you are either low on budget or want to try out android without spending too much.
