Bang for a buck, a perfect statement for Asus Fonepad. It is one of the most affordable and portable tablets out in the market and offer an extremely good price to performance ratio. Let us get on with the review so that we can explore further goodness
The design of the device resembles a lot to the first generation Google nexus 7, fortunately because Asus is manufacturing Nexus 7. The design is beautiful, the bezel around the screen is thick which makes the design old school but makes it a charm for single hand users. The back of the device is beautifully made by Aluminum which provides an amazing, sturdy and cool feeling when held in hand. The only part where Asus used plastic is the top- rear of the device. It is a removable cover where the sim and the Micro SD card goes.
The device features a 7 inches IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 800*1280 pixels and a pixel density of 216 inches per inch. The screen is multi touch enabled and can take inputs from up to 10 fingers at a time. The display unit again, is the same as Google Nexus 7 hence the viewing angles and the result is alike.
In a world of Snapdragon and NVidia, we finally have something else to play with. The device comes with an Intel based atom chipset; a 1.2 GHz processor. Other specifications include 1 gigabyte RAM and a powerVR SGX540 GPU. Specs excluding the GPU are not a bad deal at all. The GPU on the other hand is an issue. Considering the fact that people do shift to gaming when they get a larger screen, the GPU is not good enough to deliver performance against its major competitor; The Nexus 7. Nexus 7 Rocks a tegra 3 which is far better than SGX540. If gaming is not in the interests list, the device is a great deal
The device comes in two storage variants; 8 and 16 GB. Other than that, the storage can be increased thanks to an external micro SD card support. A micro SD card up to 32 GB is supported by the device which makes it a multimedia hub. Add pictures, songs and a movie library without even thinking about running out of storage.
A standard Asus Fonepad comes with 3G connectivity. This means that neither a person loses its contact with their friends, nor gets disconnected from any of its business communications. A Micro Sim and an internet plan is all that you need to stay connected. The device has no kind of restrictions whatsoever. It also allows the user to make calls and the sim slot is not just limited to internet connectivity.
The tablet comes with android v4.1 jellybean. The updates are a question at the moment because we have no official word out there regarding any updates for the tablet.
The primary (rear/back) camera of the device is a 3.2 MP image sensor that is capable of recording 720p HD videos. The gadget also features a 1.2 MP front facing camera which can be used for all the video calling needs of a user
