Product Description

The CGEM DX 1400 FASTAR Telescope from Celestron features a Schmidt-Cassegrain optical configuration and incorporates a stainless steel tripod with a computerized equatorial mount. Align and control the telescope with the NexStar hand controller or with a computer using the NexRemote software. This telescope puts the universe at your disposal with a capable 3910mm focal length and a 14" diameter primary mirror enhanced by Celestron's StarBright XLT anti-reflective coatings. This powerful and portable observation platform lets you easily see the Moon and planets, or experience views of distant stars, nebulae, galaxies, star clusters, and more.

The telescope features the integrated NexStar computer navigation system. The hand-controller has a database with over 40,000 objects, and can take you on a guided tour of what is visible on any particular night in any location. The system will also help you set up the controller and align the telescope. To keep objects centered during long observations, NexStar allows you to calibrate the mount by programming-out tracking errors inherent in all worm gears. The controller also lets you set database filter limits so you can choose to see only certain types of objects. There is even an energy-saving hibernation mode. The NexStar hand-controller software can be updated using a flash drive with downloaded content from Celestron's website.

Also included is the NexRemote software for Windows. Using the included RS-232 cable, the telescope is connected to, and controlled by, your computer. In addition to having all the functions of the NexStar hand-controller, this adds more features to enhance your experience. You can connect many planetarium and observation programs to expand the viewing options. You can create custom tours and tailor the objects you see to your interests. Selected Logitech and Saitek Windows gamepads enable you to wirelessly control the telescope. To complete your experience, use speech-support for audio commentary about what you are viewing from NexRemote.

Aligning the telescope is easy using the NexStar or NexRemote. With the computer's aid you have the choices of polar alignment, 1 or 2-star alignment, quick alignment, or solar system alignment. The NexStar also features the "All-star" Polar alignment that uses any bright star to quickly and accurately polar-align the scope.

The dual drive servo-motors are designed with power-regulating circuitry that keeps the current steady, even if the power source voltage isn't. The motors have nine slew speeds and can move as fast as 5° per second. The armatures are skewed to minimize lag, lurches and vibration when moving; even at slow speeds.

For astrophotography and imaging, the DX 1400 is Fastar compatible. The removable secondary mirror converts the telescope's slow f/11 to a fast f/2. Autoguide and auxiliary ports are located on the electronic plate to aid in long-exposure astrophotography.

The included 40mm 4-element Plossl eyepiece is fully multicoated for image clarity and, when used with this telescope, produces a magnification of 97.75x. The eyepiece is also threaded to accept filters for increasing viewing clarity. Comfortable rubber eyecups keep stray light from entering your peripheral vision.
