Product Description

HTC's Desire 820 does a lot of things right. It is good looking, spec'd well, and is decently priced; but for some consumers it may be a bit on the big side. HTC, in its increasing efforts to fill the market with more and more devices is now launching a new Desire 820 Mini, atoned down version of its mid-range shows stopper.

If you are familiar with HTC's "mini" output then you will know that the company does not tread Sony's path of making its smaller handsets all but identical to the larger flagships. Instead, HTC tends to water down the overall experience, so if you thought the Desire 820 Mini would have the same solid specs as the normal version, you should think again.

That does not mean the 820 Mini is a poor device, and the specs include:

5-inch HD screen (720p)

1.2GHz quad-core processor

1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, expandable with microSD cards

8MP rear + 5MP front cameras

Front-facing speakers

4G LTE connectivity support

Dual SIM capability

Android 4.4 KitKat

To put that into perspective against the Desire 820 proper, the bigger device gets a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 with 2GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch 720p screen, a solid if unspectacular 13 megapixel camera on the rear, an 8 megapixel lens on the front, 16GB of on-board storage, and microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC support up to 128GB.

The Desire 820 Mini is already showing in China and it is a good looking beast. It is on sale for $228, which is a good $100 less than the original and larger Desire 820, so all in all it is a more than competent and affordable handset. HTC has not said when the handset will launch or whether it will land in other markets like North America and Europe.
