The Tetradeca-Core Intel Xeon E5-2697 v3 processor is based on the Haswell-E architecture. The CPU is optimized for dual socket motherboards and ideal for server, workstation and storage systems. The clock rate of the 14-CPU cores in each case is 2.6 GHz (Max Turbo Frequency: 3.6 GHz) and offers a transmission rate of 9.6 GT/s (gigatransfer per second/QPI). The Romley-EP platform developed processor is based on socket R3 (LGA 2011-3). Benefits of the Romley platform are, that the processors have already an integrated interface for USB 3.0 and PCI-express 3.0 (with up to 40 lanes controlled directly). This provides a significant speed-boost towards the previous Xeon generations. The Intel Xeon E5-2697 v3 CPU supports Hyper-Threading and therefore is able for 28 simultaneously threads processing. The maximum power consumption is 145 W TDP. The Intel Xeon E5-2697 v3 supports 2133 ECC memory modules with a clock speed of up to 2133 MHz and quad-channel. The Intel Xeon E5-2697 v3 CPU supports the AVX SSE instruction.
