For the most detailed sound quality from your music or movies, the JBL® Studio 190 loudspeakers feature a patented CMMD® Lite tweeter dome with a proprietary Bi-Radial® waveguide. CMMD Lite starts with a dome of aluminum that is sandwiched on either side with ceramic. Its design is strong enough to hold its shape when moving rapidly, while light enough to effectively eliminate any unwanted resonance.
And when it comes to competitive materials, they just don't stack up. CMMD Lite is more than 200 times stronger than polypropylene, and it's even three times stronger than titanium. PolyPlas is engineered to be both stiff and lightweight, and along with a cloth surround, the midrange driver reproduces vocals with incredible accuracy. In fact, the midrange is so critical on the Studio 190s that the midrange driver is actually housed in a separate sub-enclosure to isolate its sound from the woofers, improving overall clarity.
The JBL® brand name is synonymous with bass, so it's important that the Studio 190s deliver rich, deep bass response. To accomplish this, the Studio 190s use the same patented PolyPlas™ driver material for both 6-inch woofer cones that is used in the midrange. As with the midrange driver, the strength and the light weight of the PolyPlas material allow for outstanding bass response that is reproduced with authority and accuracy but with none of the "booming" distortion heard in other typical tower speakers. Each woofer features a rubber surround that dissipates heat and minimizes distortion, even at high listening levels.
