All Onkyo A/V receivers are capable of carrying high-resolution 3D video formats from source devices to your 3D-capable display via HDMI.
Transporting high-definition (HD) video, 3D encoded HD video, and multi-channel HD audio, HDMI is the most desirable connection for home entertainment. Onkyo’s HDMI-enabled A/V components send and receive HD signals, connecting components such as Blu-ray Disc players, DVD players, media streamers, and gaming consoles to compatible HDTVs. Recent versions of HDMI also incorporate an ARC (Audio Return Channel) for sending audio from the TV tuner through the connected receiver, and for enabling the use of an overlaid high-definition GUI (Graphical User Interface) on Onkyo A/V receivers.
Dolby TrueHD is Dolby’s next-generation lossless technology developed for high-definition disc-based media. Dolby TrueHD audio is bit-for-bit identical to the highest-resolution studio masters. Together with high-definition video, it offers an unprecedented home theater experience. Now listeners can enjoy sound as stunning as the high-definition picture.
DTS-HD Master Audio™ is capable of delivering audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master. DTS-HD Master Audio™ delivers audio at super-high variable bit rates—24.5 Mbps on Blu-ray Disc—which is significantly higher than standard DVDs. This bit stream is so fast, and the transfer rate is so high, that it can deliver 7.1 audio channels at a sampling frequency of 24 bits—identical to the original. With DTS-HD Master Audio™, you will be able to experience movies and music exactly as the artist intended: clear, pure, and uncompromised.
Loudspeakers are specifically designed to deliver sound without distortion or coloration. Nevertheless, walls, furniture and other objects reflect and absorb sound, creating distortion that is unique to your own space. To counter this, Audyssey 2EQ corrects problems both in frequency response and in the time domain (where most of the problems lie), across the entire listening area. The results are immediately obvious—a clear, precise and natural sound.
Audyssey Dynamic Volume®
This technology allows you to set the volume level that you want and keep it there, without having to constantly adjust it. By anticipating sudden spikes and dips in the audio soundtrack and compensating for them in real time, Audyssey Dynamic Volume ensures consistent volume levels, regardless of the content you’re enjoying. Thanks to Audyssey Dynamic Volume, quiet dialogue is easier to pick up, loud passages retain their impact, and commercials are less intrusive.
WRAT is based around a low negative-feedback circuit topology that works to reduce signal noise and distortion across the frequency range. A “closed ground-loop circuit” design is employed, in which each circuit has a separate link to the power supply. This helps to cancel individual circuit noise and keep the ground potential free of distortion. High Instantaneous Current Capability (HICC) enables WRAT amplifiers to immediately cancel the speakers’ reflex energy and instantaneously send out the next signal. The same high current better manages speaker impedance fluctuations, which can negatively affect performance.
The tonal balance of a film soundtrack designed for a commercial theater will be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your home. We have developed our own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theater.
192 kHz/24-bit DACs enable the best possible reproduction of standard and high-definition audio formats.
Selected Onkyo A/V receivers, Blu-ray Players, hi-fi and stereo components feature at least one USB port. ‘Made for iPod’ and ‘Made for iPhone’ means the connection is specifically designed to interface with iPod, iPod touch, and iPhone*. ‘Direct Digital Connection’ means audio signals are transported in digital form (rather than analog) for clearer, more accurate sound. A USB port also lets you play a range of audio formats including MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, AAC, and FLAC audio files stored on a flash-memory device using the system remote for track selection and playback.
*Please refer to product information material for details about compatibility with specific Onkyo models.
For A/V receivers
Select Onkyo A/V receivers offer integrated system control with certain HDMI-compatible high-definition displays, DVD and hard-disk recorders, and Blu-ray Disc players. With one remote control, you can control certain functions, including Standby, Volume and Direct Change. These receivers can seamlessly integrate with other compatible playback components and displays.
For DVD players
RIHD also enables selected Onkyo players to easily integrate with compatible Onkyo A/V receivers and other compatible displays.
*Compatibility depends on respective model.
Onkyo’s exclusive Theater-Dimensional circuitry takes the complexity out of conventional surround-sound setups and lets you experience the excitement of surround sound from as few as two ordinary speakers.
Onkyo’s RI system lets you operate multiple RI-compatible components through a single remote control. RI capability also gives you further functionality with Onkyo’s Remote Interactive Dock for the iPod, including System On/System Off, Auto Power On, Auto Selector (Direct Change) and Timer functions.
The “Made for iPod” and “Made for iPhone” logo on selected Onkyo products means they’ve been designed specifically to interface with these Apple devices via USB port, dock, or remote Universal Port. This mutual compatibility allows the user to control playback from the Apple devices using the Onkyo system remote controller. Users can also enjoy superior sound quality, as signals are transported in digital form—rather than analog—via the direct-digital connection on selected models.
If the four HDMI® inputs, Audio Return Channel, convenient HDMI-linked set-up display, and Dolby® TrueHD/DTS-HD Master Audio™ decoding haven’t already persuaded you, here are three more reasons to consider the HT-S4505 home theater. Firstly, Onkyo’s acclaimed WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology)—formerly a feature offered only on its higher-end models—is now included. This noise-reducing technology contributes to exceptionally good audio performance across a wide dynamic range. Secondly, this model features Audyssey 2EQ, which calibrates the speakers and amp to match your room’s acoustics, thus perfecting the surround sound; and Audyssey Dynamic Volume®, which lowers the volume of irritating commercials while making movie dialogue easier to hear. Thirdly, the active subwoofer is designed for high output and very low power consumption, rounding out a compact, powerful speaker set. All this (and much more) adds up to what we think is the best-value, best-performing, best-equipped home theater package around for the money.
Four HDMI inputs on the HT-S4505’s receiver allow seamless integration of high-definition devices such as Blu-ray players, cable/satellite tuners, and gaming consoles. HDMI implementation on this receiver also supports an Audio Return Channel, allowing TV audio to be sent upstream to the A/V receiver. That means you can enjoy television programs in magnificent Onkyo sound. HDMI also supports 3D video and other popular high-resolution formats.
The receiver’s front-panel USB port lets you play MP3 and AAC stored on an iPod/iPhone, and MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC audio files stored on a flash-memory device using the system’s own remote for track selection and playback. Your music will also sound much cleaner and clearer, as the audio signal is transported in digital form (rather than analog) via the direct digital connection.
To take full advantage of the impact of low-frequency sounds in your games, movies, and music, the HT-S4505 employs an active powered subwoofer. This type of subwoofer draws an independent power supply that leaves the AVR free to focus its power on the mid- and high-frequency sounds. This all-new down-firing subwoofer was developed to save energy (and money) by slashing power consumption by 80 percent over the 2011 models.

I bought this system even though i was skeptical about its weakness for speakers. Its because i read a few articles about HTIBs having weak speakers.
After using this sytem for about three months i can safely say that its way above those all in one systems (sony samsung etc) with integrated bluray players.
I use it mostly to watch movies and it does quiet a convincing job but if you have an ear for good music these wont do a fine job.
Satellite speakers are weak. They miss frequencies in the upper and a lot in the midrange segment and their cabinet vibrates when pushed real hard.
The star of the show is subwoofer which is powered so its a good low frequency unit for a smallish room like mine(15'x12). I was really amazed by its driver size which i think is only 16cm and the massive bass it produced.
The real benefit of this system is the AV receiver which is quiet nice for its price and features plus it gives you an added bonus to upgrade to better speakers later on if you want.
The system can go very loud without any serious distortion but the satellite speakers loose their refinement at higher volume, still its way better than other small systems.
Thumbs up for a good service by homeshopping and i'll be buying more stuff from them in future.
