Overview:
Xperia go is an android smartphone that is manufactured by Sony Corporation. The device is amongst the Xperia 2012 Lineup and is available in the market since July, 2012. The device has a rectangular shape, a decent hardware, a 3.5 inches, Comes with Android 2.3, has the ability to dive in water and the list can just go on. The mid ranged device has a lot to offer considering the price tag it comes with. To see what the device has got for its customers, let’s get on with the review.
Design:
The device is amongst the 2012 Xperia lineup, which Sony called the NXT series. Xperia go has a rectangular body work and is a very compact device. The device is just 111 mm (4.37 in) tall, 60.3 mm (2.37 in) wide, 9.8 mm (0.39 in) thick and weighs 110 grams only. The front of the phone is where the 3.5 inches LED-backlit LED display rests. Just above the display, we have the earpiece, the Sony logo and the proximity sensor. Below the display is where we have the 3, back, home and menu, touch sensitive capacitive touch keys. Just below the menu key is where we have the primary microphone. Last but not the least, just below the microphone, we have the Xperia Logo. At the back of the phone, we have a 5 MP shooter, the LED flash, a second microphone that is used for stereo recording, the Sony Ericsson and Xperia logo and the speaker grill. The right side of the phone is where we have the microUSB Port that is covered by a flap and the volume key. The left side of the phone is where we have the 3.5 mm headphone jack that too, is covered by a flap. The top of the phone is where we have the power key. The bottom of the phone is empty. The device is made up of plastic and the back of the device is removable. This is why we have no Sim and Micro SD card slots because both of them go under the battery door. Both are located at the left side of the device BUT under the back door.
Hardware:
The device runs on a NovaThor dual core cortex A9 processor that is clocked at 1 GHz. The GPU that Xperia go carries is a Mali 400. For further smooth operations, the device comes with 512MB of RAM. The display unit of the device is a 3.5 inches, 320*480 pixels LED-backlit LCD touchscreen and a pixel density of 165 pixels per inch. The display is a multi-touch display and can take inputs from up to 4 fingers at a time. For the protection of the display, we have a scratch resistant glass to that the display under the glass is protected and there is no room of scratches on the glass. To further boost output, the display uses Sony Mobile Bravia Engine so that the display delivers its maximum output. The camera of the device is a 5 MP auto focus camera that is capable of recording 720p videos at 30 frames per second. The rest of the camera features are: Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, 3D sweep panorama and video stabilization. Other connectivity options of the device are 2G and 3G enabled, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth v3.0, microUSB v2.0 and FM radio. The device comes in one storage variant that is 8 GB internal storage that is expandable by up to 32 GB thanks to the Micro SD card slot. Last but not the least, the device packs a non-removable 1305 mAh battery that has a talk time of up to 6 and a half hours and a stand by time of up to 520 hours.
Software:
Xperia go comes with android v2.3 gingerbread out of the box, with v4.1.2 Jelly Bean update already seeding. The user interface of the device is Sony’s custom interface and is quite close to stock android. So if you are a fan of stock android, the device’s UI will be a pleasure.
Conclusion:
Xperia Go is a great device considering the price tag it comes with. The design is rugged, the ability to dive into water is amazing and the performance is pretty decent for a mid ranger. One thing that people may miss when using the product is the lack of full HD recording. Other than that, the device has no such disadvantages and offers a great bang for your buck.
