To go along with the official October 4th press invitation that we received, Google has also launched madeby.google.com Pixel smartphone teaser site. In Google fashion, the site is pretty sparse. It features the outline of a search bar which slowly morphs into the outline of a smartphone. Unfortunately, no information about the Pixel or Pixel XL is revealed on the site.
If you haven’t already, we suggest you set a calendar appointment for 9AM Pacific on October 4 if you want to catch the unveiling of the new Pixel phones. We’ll be sharing the official details as soon as they are available, but we imagine there will be a live stream of the event on YouTube as well.
The larger Pixel XL goes up to QHD resolution and a higher pixel density. It has the same amount of RAM and storage options, though - 32GB or 128GB. Before you ask, there's no microSD slot, but Google Photos can free up storage by moving photos and videos to the cloud.
The cameras use 12MP sensors with 1.55µm pixels behind an f/2.0 aperture - it sounds just like the Nexus 5X/6P camera, which was excellent. It's not a verbatim copy, new Electronic Image Stabilization is present.
