Product Description

SteelSeries WOW MMO Cataclysm Gaming Mouse

If you are a World of Warcraft fanatic, which I'm sure there are at least a few million of you, SteelSeries has paired up with Blizzard to create the ultimate MMO mouse. The World of Warcraft Cataclysm MMO Gaming Mouse ($99.99 direct) has all the buttons, software, and bonus features to make any WoW junkie salivate at this niche-mouse.

  • PROS

10 profiles. 14 customizable buttons. Up to 5000dpi. 1000GHz polling rate. On-board memory. Cool design. Soft rubber-texture side grips. Mac compatible.

  •
  • CONS

Back light is snazzy, but makes for sweaty hands. Bulky. Pricey.

  •
  • BOTTOM LINE

World of Warcraft fanatics, here is your mouse: The SteelSeries WoW MMO Gaming Mouse.

  • Design
The SteelSeries MMO Gaming Mouse ($99.99 direct) looks like its straight out of Azeroth, its armored-plated design rings harmoniously with the rise of Deathwing and the fanciful theme of Warcraft. The top of the mouse is made of plastic that is painted and molded to look like copper-plated armor—it even has a slightly worn look. The sides of the mouse have a soft rubberized plastic that is comfortable to the touch and good for gripping. It measures over 4 1/2-inches at its widest point, 2 2/3-inches at its highest point, and 5 1/3-inches long; a little on the bulky side.

  • Buttons abound in this mouse, there are a total of 14 that can be customized (mouse buttons included). There are 5 on the left side, two that can act as designated browser buttons. There's one awkwardly placed button on the right side that is slightly sunken in that you're not sure if the click registers. On top of the mouse are 5 buttons (not including the right and left mouse buttons) framing the scroll wheel and on the edges.

  • Performance
I found the MMO Gaming mouse to be a great niche mouse. I was able to store my profile onto my mouse from my primary Windows-based computer and take it to a foreign Mac PC and have all my commands intact. On the gaming grid, I found the feel of the WoW mouse to be a little bulky for my tastes, otherwise it was an excellent companion as I explored the new starter levels of the Troll race and grew my character to level 25 (so far). The button editing system was also intuitive and easy to understand as WoW-based commands like "Target Closest Enemy" and "Open All Bags" were neatly organized into categories like "Movement Buttons", "Action Buttons", and so on. This way you can easily move through the list and find what command you want.

The World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse is a great asset to any WoW enthusiast, however the $99 price tag is a little cringe-worthy. For 2 more buttons and excellent editing software, you can get the Razer Naga for $79.99. However, you won't receive the same software that caters specifically to WoW.
